Grid East: 489688
Grid N/S: 349131
Supplier: Aqua Drill Tech
Status: Completed
Global H2O Team: James Wilde, Madara Repse
Cost: approximately $10,500
Benefit: Water for 2000 people; yield potential to 9,000 people
Description: When the Well #1 was completed, we again worked with Aqua Drill Tech to establish whether the rig would be ready to drill the second hole. When they knew that it was not, they again subcontracted quickly to ensure we would not experience any more delays.
The subcontractor set up his rig a few meters away from the ADT rig and began drilling. Water was struck at 10 meters but they continued drilling to 40. The drilling work for both sites was completed within the third full week of our time in Uganda. When the drilling was completed the spill plate construction was almost complete at Well #1/ Larumu.
Test pumping was completed and water samples were taken. The yield was 4000 liters per hour and a recovery rate of 92%.
The previous source was a contaminated pond about 950 meters from the new borehole. Cattle and children can be found knee deep in the water there.
We stayed and witnessed the first water from both sites, took samples, photos and enjoyed seeing the people enjoy having clean drinking water so close to their village.
